Compared with paid vectorizers
These are the closest comparison: dedicated tracing services, priced per image or per month. The differences are architecture and what happens at the edges of the job.
Per-image pricing
Paid vectorizers charge per conversion or meter a monthly allowance, because each conversion costs them server time. Ours runs on your machine, so the conversion itself is free and unlimited, and the paid tiers cover only the parts that genuinely need a server.
Trace quality
An honest answer: on a difficult photograph, a well-tuned commercial engine will often beat this one. On logos, line art, lettering and icons, which is the overwhelming majority of real jobs, the results are comparable.
What happens after the trace
Most stop at the vector. Ours continues into the machine formats with real units, plus cut lines, colour separations, underbases and the pre-flight checkers.
Privacy
Customer artwork under NDA cannot always be uploaded to a third party. Here the question does not arise.
Output formats
Paid vectorizers export the formats print and design use - SVG, EPS, PDF and often DXF. Here the same trace can also be written as DWG, G-code, PLT for vinyl cutters, STL and the DST, PES and JEF embroidery formats, without a second tool.
When paying is worth it
If you trace difficult photographs every day and only ever need an SVG back, a commercial engine tuned for photographs may save you time. Try the same image in both before you subscribe: the free trace here costs nothing to compare against.
Try it on your own file
The only comparison that settles it is your artwork through both tools. Ours is free and needs no account.
