Every file is traced on its own at its own resolution, with the settings in the panel. A file converted here comes out identical to the same file converted by itself.

Trace settings
Full-colour trace for print and web.
Fine-tune
Raise it to clear dust, grain and stray dots; 0 keeps every mark.
Untick for pixel art: the outline then follows every pixel edge.
With Remove background: how close a colour must be to the background to go with it.
Machine output
Height follows the source aspect ratio.
Laser and Router follow the traced outlines. Engrave photo burns the picture itself, line by line, for photos and portraits.
Heat transfer vinyl is pressed face down, so it has to be cut mirrored. The second box is the overcut in millimetres: a drag knife starts each shape pointing the wrong way, and running past the start covers that stretch properly so the piece weeds out clean.
Beam or bit width. Left at zero the tool runs down the centre of the line, so a part finishes one tool width undersize. Set it and the path is offset by half, with holes offset the opposite way.
Holes before the part that holds them, so nothing comes loose while there is still cutting to do. Also shortens the travel between cuts.

We close every path
A cutting machine follows an outline all the way round. Open paths will not separate, so we close them and flag any that cannot be.
Import and cut
The SVG opens directly in Design Space or Silhouette Studio.
Watercolor to SVG, free, for Cricut
Watercolor to SVG free: a watercolour painting is traced into layered colour shapes that keep its washes as flat areas, so it scales and cuts. The download is watercolor to SVG free download, no account.
For watercolor to SVG files for Cricut, use Print Then Cut: upload the SVG (or the PNG with the cut line) and Design Space cuts round the painting. Scans come as TIFF or BMP too: TIFF to SVG, BMP to SVG.
Why it matters
Closed paths, every time
This is the difference between a cut file and a picture. An open path leaves the piece attached to the sheet.
Holes cut as holes
The counter in an "o" or an "a" comes out as a separate closed contour with opposite winding, so the machine lifts it out.
No stray specks
Sub-threshold fragments are dropped before export, so the blade does not chase dust across the mat.
Free and local
No signup and no upload. Machine files are never watermarked, because a mark in a cut file is extra cut paths.
Questions
Will this import into Design Space?
Yes. The SVG uses closed paths with an explicit fill rule, which is what Design Space needs to follow an outline all the way round.
Why does my design have extra pieces?
Every distinct region becomes its own contour. Raise the detail setting to merge small fragments, or clean the source image first.
Can I cut a photograph?
Use Mono mode and adjust the threshold. A photo becomes a single silhouette rather than a tonal image, which is what a blade can actually follow.
