SVG Optimizer

SVG Optimizer, free and online. Convert SVG to SVG and get clean vector paths that scale to any size. Reads the SVG at any size, so the result is as sharp as you need. Runs in your browser: nothing uploaded, no sign-up.

How it works

  1. Upload the file

SVG and EPS are parsed; rasters are re-encoded.

  2. Choose how hard to squeeze

Coordinate precision for vectors, quality for JPEG. The size saved is shown as you change it.

  3. Download

Compare before and after in the preview before committing.

SVG optimizer: smaller SVG files that look the same

  • svg optimizer
  • optimize svg
  • svg minifier
  • compress svg
  • reduce svg file size
  • svg path optimizer

An svg optimizer removes what the eye never sees: editor metadata from Illustrator and Inkscape, empty groups, hidden layers, and coordinates written to eight decimal places. Optimize svg files here and they are often a third to half the size, drawn the same.

Use it as an svg minifier for the web, to compress svg icons before a site build, or to reduce svg file size before uploading to Cricut or Etsy, which refuse or slow down on large files. As an svg path optimizer it rewrites path data in its shortest form: relative moves, dropped repeat commands, and coordinates rounded to a precision you choose.

Why it matters

Lossless by default

Vector optimisation only rounds coordinates and strips editor metadata. The geometry is unchanged unless you lower the precision yourself.

Real reductions

Redundant closing segments, editor namespaces, comments and over-precise coordinates typically account for a third to a half of an exported SVG.

Transparency handled properly

JPEG has no alpha channel. We fill white behind transparent areas rather than letting them encode as black.

See what changed

Before and after byte counts, and the optimised file rendered, so nothing is thrown away silently.

Questions

Will optimizing change how my SVG looks?

No. Only invisible data and excess precision are removed. At the default two decimal places the change is far below anything a screen or a cutter can resolve.

Why is my SVG file so big?

Usually an embedded bitmap, thousands of tiny path nodes from auto-tracing, or editor metadata. The optimizer strips the metadata and precision; the cut-ready checker tells you if there is a bitmap inside.

Is this like SVGO?

It does the same kind of safe clean-up SVGO does, in the browser, with no install.

Will optimising break my SVG?

Editor-specific attributes are removed, so the file may no longer round-trip perfectly into Inkscape or Illustrator with their own state intact. The rendered result is identical.

How much smaller?

Typically 30 to 50 percent for an exported SVG, more if it came out of a design tool with metadata attached.

Does it change my colours?

No. Colour values are left exactly as they are.
