dotLottie to MP4
Convert a .lottie (dotLottie) animation to MP4 video (H.264), encoded in your browser at the size and frame rate you pick. Free.
How it works
Open the dotLottie file
Drop a Lottie .json (exported from After Effects with Bodymovin, or downloaded from LottieFiles) or a .lottie file. It plays at once, in your browser.
Pick the size and frame rate
Set the width, the frame rate and the background: transparent, white, black or any colour. Scrub to a frame for a PNG or SVG still.
Download the MP4
The video is encoded by your browser's own encoder (H.264 for MP4, VP9 for WebM), frame by frame, at the exact frame rate.
dotLottie to MP4 converter: free and online
Convert dotlottie to MP4 in your browser: drop in a dotLottie file and download the MP4. The file is converted on your own device and never uploaded, so this dotlottie to mp4 converter is safe for private and confidential files.
Paths stay paths: shapes, colours and curves carry across without being turned into pixels, so the result is still sharp at any size.

Why it matters
Drawn by lottie-web
The same open-source player that shows Lottie on the web draws every frame, so the GIF or video looks like the animation, not an approximation of it.
Exact timing
Frames are taken at the frame rate you choose from the animation's own timeline. A GIF's delays are carried so 30 fps really plays in the length it should (3, 3 and 4 hundredths in turn).
Nothing uploaded
Client animations and unreleased work stay on your computer: the file is read, drawn and encoded in this tab.
Questions
How do I convert dotLottie to MP4?
Drop your dotLottie file on this page, check the preview, and press Download. The MP4 is made in a few seconds, with no sign-up.
Is my dotLottie file uploaded anywhere?
No. The dotlottie to mp4 conversion runs in your browser, on your own device. The file never leaves it.
What is the difference between .json and .lottie?
A .lottie (dotLottie) is a zip holding the Lottie JSON, a manifest and the pictures as separate files. It is compressed, so it is often a fraction of the JSON's size, and it plays in the dotLottie players for web, Android and iOS. Lottie JSON is what lottie-web and older players read.
What is a Lottie file?
A Lottie is a vector animation saved as JSON: shapes, keyframes and timing, exported from After Effects with the Bodymovin plugin or made in LottieFiles' editor. A .lottie (dotLottie) is the same animation zipped with its pictures, usually much smaller.
Why does my animation look different?
After Effects expressions are not run here, as the iOS and Android Lottie players do not run them either, and the page says when a file has them. Text drawn with a font that is not on this computer is replaced. Everything else (shapes, masks, mattes, gradients, trim paths, repeaters, pictures) is drawn by lottie-web.
Can a GIF keep a transparent background?
Yes, choose Transparent. A GIF pixel is either fully see-through or solid, so soft edges become hard ones; on a known background colour, pick that colour for smooth edges. MP4 has no transparency, so a transparent background becomes white there.
Which video formats can it make?
MP4 (H.264) and WebM (VP9, or VP8 where VP9 is not available), with your browser's built-in encoder: Chrome, Edge, Firefox 130+ and Safari 17+.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The Lottie is read, played and converted in your browser tab.
